From the Associated Press:
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — For more than a century, walking along Charleston's Battery has been as much a part of life as the city's pastel buildings, she- crab soup and plodding carriage horses. Now the promenade overlooking Charleston Harbor is getting a much-needed makeover.
The first phase of the multiyear, multimillion-dollar project begins next month with $2.7 million in renovations to the curve in the Battery at the tip of the Charleston peninsula. Other sections of the Battery, which is more than a mile long, will be renovated in the future.
It's the latest in an ongoing series of projects renovating city buildings and parks. In past decade, almost $200 million worth of such projects have been completed or undertaken.
