1.) If you’ve ever considered becoming a vegetarian, this might be a reason for you to give up eating meat. A new study has found that vegetarians were 32% less likely to die of heart disease, or be treated for it in the hospital. An 11 year study by the University of Oxford of more than 44,000 found that vegetarians also had lower blood pressure, lower "bad" cholesterol levels, and were at healthier weights. According to a researcher, vegetarians probably have a lower intake of saturated fat so it makes senses there is a lower risk of heart disease.
2.) You never know what you might find walking on Folly Beach or the Isle of Palms. A British man was walking his dog on the beach when his pup discovered a lump of whale vomit. Ken Wilman said he went home and looked up the discovery on the internet. When he found out what it was, he went back to the beach and grabbed it, since he learned whale vomit is used as a fixative in perfumes. And while it has been mostly replaced by synthetic alternatives, his whale vomit is worth nearly $160,000.
3.) A Massachusetts appeals court has upheld a judge's order for a 12-year-old to get a job. The sentence was so he can pay a $1,000 restitution to his victim. The boy, who was 11 at the time of the crime, had been ordered to pay his neighbors in exchange for having charges of juvenile delinquency put on hold for one year. His attorney argued there were few jobs for 12-year-olds, but the court offered some employment suggestions for the boy: "earn money by obtaining a paper route, mowing lawns, raking leaves, shoveling snow, baby-sitting, delivering groceries or by recycling items upon which a deposit had been paid."
