1.) What could lead to more peaceful prison conditions? How about allowing inmates to smoke marijuana. It’s an idea being floated by the International Journal of Drug Policy who studied Swiss prisons. Their research revealed about 80 percent of prisoners and 50 percent of guards smoke pot. The study says when compared to the other illicit activities that occur behind bars, smoking pot ranks pretty low on the list of dangerous behavior. Although marijuana is illegal in Switzerland, prison officials turn a blind eye because smoking keeps prisoners calm and reduces violence.
2.) It was a record setting convention over this weekend in Sin City. The 12th Annual Las Vegas Star Trek convention has officially claimed the Guinness World Book of Records title “for the most people dressed up in Star Trek costumes.” 1,085 fans assembled at the Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino to share in the honor. They beat the old record of 1,063 which had been set in October of last year in London.
3.) The average person spends almost 6 ½ months every year on a diet … at least in Britain where Del Monte Naturally Light commissioned a study on dieting habits. 74% of the 4,000 adults who participated said they were unhappy about their weight. Women were slightly more likely than men to say they wanted to shed some pounds, but the three out of four number was the same for both genders. If you believe 6 ½ month number, it would mean, if you’re an average person, you would be on a diet for 32 years of your life.
