1.) What’s the ugliest animal in the world? That designation is being placed on the blobfish, which is now the official mascot of the Ugly Animals Preservation Society. In partnership with the National Science + Engineering Competition, the British group has taken a public poll to determine the winner. The society’s president explained "for too long the cute and fluffy animals have taken the limelight, but now the blobfish will be the voice for the mingers who always get forgotten."
Coming in second in the voting was the Kakapo, followed by the Axolotl, and the Titicaca water frog—whose name literally translates to "aquatic scrotum."
2.) How many tweets will it take for you to fall in love? According to a study conducted by PIXmania, modern couples fall in love in about half the time as their parents’ generation. Couples 55 and older said it took about 2 ½ months to be calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend whereas those under 25 say it takes just under a month. The study found it now takes couples an average of 224 tweets, 163 text messages, 70 Facebook messages, 37 emails and 30 phone calls to fall head over heels in love.
3.) This weekend the biggest college football game will be played in College Station, Texas, the home of the 12th Man, as Texas A&M hosts top ranked Alabama. At halftime of the game, Houston attorney Tony Buzbee will be presented with a Texas specialty license plate – 12THMAN. My Plates, the state customized license plate contractor, auctioned off 10-year rights to the plate. Buzbee paid $115,000 for the license. He says he’ll be giving the plate to an Iraq war veteran that he knows.
