1.) The City by the Bay is tolerant of many things, but not street chess. San Francisco police have put an end to a more than 30 year tradition in the city’s Mid-Market neighborhood by dismantling tables and confiscating games. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, most of the players that gathered each day to play were homeless and too much crime was occurring in the neighborhood. Police claim the games were a disguise for other things going on while the players say the cops are being mean for no reason.
2.) This fall, for Halloween, there’s a new pumpkin flavor of M&Ms being sold only at Target. But next year, there’ll be a new M&Ms flavor that will be available year round – Birthday Cake M&Ms. Mars will begin producing this delicious milk chocolate infused birthday cake flavor M&M next year. Birthday cake M&Ms will go on sale in May of 2014.
3.) Congratulations to Chicago, which has jumped ahead of New York as the murder capitol of the United States. The Windy City has taken the crown, even though it only has one third as many residents as the Big Apple. There were 500 murders in Chicago last year, while New York had 419 killings. However, statistics also show you’re most likely to be murdered not in Chicago or New York, but in Flint, Michigan, where one in 1,613 residents was a homicide victim in 2012.
