1.) Which exercise is the best to suppress hunger? According to new research from Japan, you should jump rope. Men who jumped rope for three 10-minute sets showed greater suppression of their appetites than those who burned a similar number of calories cycling. What’s more, the effect lasted for 15 minutes after exercise. One reason may be the jumping motion may create more fatigue and muscle discomfort than a non-weight-bearing exercising like cycling does, and that discomfort can tamp down your desire for food.
2.) Over the weekend, the World’s Largest Cheesecake was unveiled in Lowville, New York. The 6,900-pound, record-setting cheesecake was created to help celebrate the town's ninth annual Cream Cheese Festival. It took a team of 30 from the Lowville Kraft Foods' Philadelphia Cream Cheese facility to create the huge dessert. To make it to the Guinness World Records, the pie had to adhere to three specs: made of a soft cheese of some type, made with sugar and to have a base. The old record for largest cheesecake was 4,703 pounds.
3.) You may have heard of meth mouth, the nasty-looking result to teeth from using meth, but what about Mountain Dew mouth? The Salt blog at NRP and public health advocates in West Virginia say it’s real and widespread. One researcher estimates that 26% of preschoolers in Appalachia have tooth decay, and 15% of those ages 18 to 24 have had a tooth pulled. It's not all from soda but Mountain Dew in particular is wildly popular in the region. One potential remedy being floated is to stop allowing people to buy soda with food stamps.
