1.) A dozen finalists have been named for the 2013 class at the National Toy Hall of Fame. The 12 nominees are Bubbles, chess, the board game Clue, Fisher-Price Little People, green Army men, Magic 8-Ball, My Little Pony, Nerf toys, Pac-Man video games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the scooter, and the rubber duck. Only two of those 12 will be honored, joining last year’s inductees dominoes and “Star Wars” action figures. Winners will be announced on November 7th.
2.) With all the sun and temperatures in the mid 80s tomorrow, you may be wearing your flip-flops and sandals this weekend. But men may want to think twice about their footwear. A new survey of 6,000 women reveals that ladies really don’t want to see our feet and toes. Men should only wear flip-flops when going to the beach, the pool or on a boat. And, men may want to think about a pedicure as 78% of the women in this survey said men need to take better care of their feet.
3.) One year ago, thanks in part to a brutal hurricane season, gas prices were on the rise. Assuming that Tropical Storm Karen doesn’t mess things up, those prices will continue to head a different way this year. Perhaps you’ve noticed the fall prices at lowcountry gas stations. According to this week’s Energy Information Administration report, the national average for a gallon of regular at the end of September was around 40¢ less than a year ago. The AAA Fuel Gauge Report indicates that gas prices dropped about 20¢ per gallon nationally in the past month. And the gas experts at AAA says, barring significant refinery problems or higher oil costs, gas prices "could drop another 25¢ to 30¢ per gallon to the cheapest averages of the year."
