A new study suggests that inhaling motor vehicle emissions is bad for a person's cholesterol. Researchers at the University of Washington and UCLA say it may transform good, protective cholesterol into a bad, artery-clogging kind. That increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. The study adds to a field of evidence linking air pollution with heart disease. Researchers used mice to come up with their findings. They say further study in humans will be required in the future.
