- Working retail is hard, and the pay isn’t always great, but sometimes there’s a benefit in your employee discount. Normally, employers try to keep that secret, but it’s hard to do with the internet around. Here’s what we’ve discovered to be the best and worst employee discounts.
The Best:
#1.) American Apparel. -- 50% off everything, plus a $200 stipend when you start.
#2.) Best Buy. -- Wholesale cost of an item, plus 5%.
#3.) J Crew. -- 50% off five items a month, and 30% off anything after that.
#4.) Apple. -- 25% off computers, and either $250 off an iPad or $500 off a Mac, once every three years.
#5.) Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy. -- Between 30% to 50% off, depending on how much you buy.
The Worst:
#1.) Home Depot. -- No discount. BRUTAL.
#2.) Walmart. -- 10%off . . . but no food, cigarettes, or sale items.
#3.) RadioShack. -- 30% off RadioShack branded stuff, 10% off everything else.
#4.) Bed, Bath & Beyond. -- 20%off. But they send 20% coupons to everyone in the country on a weekly basis, so getting 20% off doesn't really make you special.
#5.) Whole Foods. -- 20% off . . . unless you're skinny. If your BMI is low and you don't smoke, your discount can jump up to 30%.
